Energy efficiency

Sustainability is a major issue. An issue that drives us to not only to continuously improve our solutions, but also to make them smarter. By putting energy efficiency at the heart of our drying solutions, we contribute to reducing energy consumption in a wide variety of company processes. We will not use more energy than necessary for drying your products. Would you like us to tell you how we can do this for your particular business? How does it work?

As little energy costs as possible

For many companies energy costs are a substantial part of the total operating costs. With BES Bollmann’s drying solutions we try to keep energy costs as low as possible. But how do we achieve this?

The challenge is to develop a system that heats the cooler/fresh outside air using the air discharged from the drying process. To reduce heat loss, a heat exchanger is placed between the incoming and outgoing air. This creates a win-win situation. We always develop tailor-made solutions. We do this for both new and existing drying kilns. Not only for our own BES Bollmann kilns, but we can develop and apply this system to suit all types of drying kilns.

First, let’s go back a step. Basically, the number of exhaust ducts of a heat recovery installation is limited. A smart box is positioned at a central point, which is connected to channels on both sides of the installation. These channels contain fans with valves, which can force air in or out. This enables the air to be renewed and the climate in the drying kiln to be maintained at the desired level. The fan and valves are easily operated and controlled using BES Bollmann Tromatic® control.

The entire heat recovery installation is made of aluminium, fitted with cleaning hatches and stainless steel fasteners to prevent corrosion and provide high quality. The effect? All this combined ensures that 70-80% of the energy in the expelled air is recovered, so that we can achieve an energy reduction of 20-25%. Heat recovery

Low operational costs

The operating costs for wood drying are largely determined by the cost of thermal energy (heating). In addition, electrical energy and financing costs play a role. The proportion of these two costs is, however, considerably lower. It therefore pays to focus on limiting the thermal energy costs.

The ever increasing energy prices significantly increase drying costs. Forecasts and current reports indicate that the peak has not yet been reached. This is why BES Bollmann began focusing on developing and producing energy-efficient drying kilns heated with a gas or oil-fired heating years ago.

Possible savings of up to 25%

Our team relishes the challenge of providing every type of drying kiln with an energy-saving heat recovery installation. An investment that quickly pays for itself. By choosing an energy-efficient solution, savings of 25% have already been achieved using thermal energy (gas and oil).

But we are going one step further. Due to the current demand for biomass, these prices are also rising significantly. For this reason, heat exchangers are being increasingly used in drying solutions heated by sustainable, wood-fired boilers. This is an energy-efficient solution with potential, since heat recovery installations can now also be used when a wood-fired boiler installation is not sufficient for the number of drying kilns and/or with a possible expansion. In short, as far as we are concerned, this is definitely a sustainable option with potential.
